Wire EDM Program Operator

List Date: 10/08/2025

Location: St. Paul, MN

A Day in the Life:

  • Program Wire EDM machines using CAD/CAM software and configure setups based on blueprints
  • Operate and monitor EDM equipment to produce precise parts from metals, alloys, and composites
  • Troubleshoot machine issues (wire breaks, tolerances) to minimize downtime
  • Prioritize workflow and act as “project leader” for assigned jobs in the Wire Room
  • Inspect parts with micrometers and calipers to confirm quality and accuracy
  • Perform routine maintenance and keep machines clean, calibrated, and running at peak performance
  • Select and maintain wire and tooling while managing inventory
  • Collaborate with engineering and production to resolve design challenges and process improvements
  • Train and mentor junior operators to strengthen team skills
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain accurate records of setups, inspections, and maintenance

  • Have strong hands-on skills with Wire EDM operation, setup, and programming
  • Can read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings with ease
  • Are skilled in math, geometry, and trigonometry for precision machining
  • Have a problem-solving mindset for troubleshooting machine and tooling issues
  • Pay close attention to detail and uphold high quality standards
  • Communicate clearly and collaborate across teams
  • Value safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement

Preferred Experience:

  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM programming for Wire EDM
  • Proven experience in Wire EDM operation in a production or toolroom setting
  • Knowledge of material properties, wire handling, and EDM process optimization
  • Leadership experience mentoring or training junior operators

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move frequently during shifts
  • Regularly lift up to 25 lbs, frequently lift up to 50 lbs, and occasionally more than 100 lbs
  • Strong vision, dexterity, and stamina for detailed, repetitive tasks
  • Capability to stay focused during long runs while monitoring multiple machines

Pay Rate: $29 – $38 per hour
