Die Room - CNC Mill Operator

Job Summary
• Load and position material in the machine by the most appropriate means, whether that be manually placement, use of a die cart, or in the case of larger parts, forklift or overhead hoist.

• Use dial indicator or machine probe to assure that work piece is properly positioned to all three axes of the machine (X-axis/Y-axis/Z-axis).

• Communicate with programmer via setup sheet and/or verbal instructions to fully understand all the details of the program and required tools before beginning.

• Assure that clamping method is adequate, tight and safe and position material in the machine by the most appropriate means, whether that be manually placement, use of a die cart, or in the case of larger parts, forklift or overhead hoist.

• Communicate with toolmaker/designer assigned to job to determine where and when to leave “grind stock” on tool steel pieces as well as how much stock to allow.

• Make offset and depth adjustments at the machine so as to assure proper size of holes, pockets and critical features where applicable.  

• Utilize die design prints to determine functional aspects of workpiece so as to assure that critical dimensions are being held.

• Check critical dimensions on work piece before proceeding to next operation.  

• Consult with supervisor and more experienced die room employees to solve machining problems.

• Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and sometimes recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of die components.

• Works to tolerances as close as .0002”.

• Ensure all current Q.M.S (Quality Management System) procedures relevant to job are being followed.  

• Conceive, build, setup and qualify fixtures for production machining of metal stamped parts.  

 

Skills and Experience
• Associates Degree or technical certificate in a related field preferred.
• 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
